Zoran Poposki FRSA is a multi-award-winning transdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and curator based in Hong Kong. Poposki explores cultural translation, liminality, identity, and public space through painting, drawing, photography, (post-digital) printmaking, performance art, video, film, curating, art education, and publishing.

His work has been shown in more than 120 exhibitions, screenings and festivals worldwide, including: 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts Ljubljana, XIII Cairo Biennale, Institute of Contemporary Arts London, National Gallery of Macedonia, Xi'an Art Museum in China, Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje, Minsheng Art Museum Beijing, Art Basel Hong Kong, City Art Museum Ljubljana, Sergey Kuryokhin Modern Art Center in St. Petersburg, CICA Museum in South Korea, National Museum of Montenegro, Museu da Vila Velha Portugal, Museo de Arte de Ponce San Juan in Puerto Rico,  Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester, Art Stays Festival of Contemporary Art in Slovenia, University of Sharjah, Ars Electronica, and Crypto And Digital Art Fair (CADAF). His public art projects have been presented on urban LED screens, video billboards, posters and billboards in NYC, Skopje, Dublin, Hong Kong, and the demilitarized border zone between South Korea and North Korea.  

Poposki has exhibited alongside some of the major names in contemporary artistic production, including: Gerhard Richter, Nam Jun Paik, Allora and Calzadilla, Xu Bing, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Jenny Holzer, Olafur Eliasson, William Eggleston, Thomas Ruff, Robert Cahen, Sebastiao Salgado, etc. His works have been selected for curated and juried exhibitions by prominent international curators and critics, including: Deborah Cullen (Director and Head Curator, Gallery of the Columbia University New York), Elisabeth Sussman (Curator, Whitney Museum, NYC), Donald Kuspit (Professor Emeritus of art history and philosophy, SUNY), etc.

 

Poposki's curatorial projects have been presented at: Hong Kong Arts Centre, Osage Gallery Hong Kong, Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art Manchester, Anita Chan Lai-ling Gallery Hong Kong, Videotage Hong Kong, ArtStays International Festival of Contemporary Art Slovenia, Gallery 3D Mestre, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, etc. Poposki is a member of Independent Curators International (ICI).

 

Awards include: CEC Artslink Award (New York), ArtSlant Prize (Los Angeles), Rise Art Prize Shortlist (London), Global Art Awards Finalist/Painting (Dubai, in association with The Wall Street Journal), ArtRights Prize Finalist (Italy), Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA, London), etc. Artist residencies include: SVA School of Visual Arts (New York), Wooloo (Berlin), PNCA Pacific Northwest College of Art (Portland, OR), VSC Vermont Studio Center, etc.

Education: ILPVAM International Leadership in Visual Arts Management (New York University, University of Deusto, Guggenheim Bilbao), PhD Cultural Studies (EuroBalkan University Skopje), MFA New Media Art (Donau Universitat Krems, Austria and Transart Institute New York). 

Poposki's work is collected in the Luciano Benetton Foundation's Imago Mundi collection (Italy) and in the Videotage Media Art Collection (Hong Kong). His work is archived in the AUP archive (a project of e-flux in collaboration with the Serpentine Gallery London), as well as the Ocean Archive by TBA21-Academy, and in Google Arts & Culture
